The first days of school, plus some FAQ's!

A few FAQ's for Today and Tomorrow!

Dear CS Families,

We know you are getting a lot of information from us, your other schools, your jobs, et al.

There's a lot to process; hang in there!

Please read the messages you get from us carefully these first few days and discuss them with your children.

As of about now, 3 pm on 9/15, you should have received an email from your STARS Advisor!

*This message will let you know how to connect with your group tomorrow, Wednesday, 9/16, at 9 am. *There will also be details on how to sign up for the Listening Conference for your child.

The Listening Conference is extremely important.

*For 6th graders, only parents/guardians will meet with the STARS advisor.

*7th and 8th graders will join their adults in meeting with the STARS advisor.

What is the Schedule Wednesday - Friday?

*Each day this week, the 16th, 17th, and 18th, begins with STARS; it will continue from there with setting up accounts, community building, summer reading groups, a virtual scavenger hunt, and setting up a virtual locker (across the 3 days.)

*The day will be a combination of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (not live) activity, and will end at varying times given the activities.

What are the regular school day hours?

*Beginning on 9/21, school will begin at 9 am and end at 2:30 pm.

Please explain the Cohorts again?

Cohorts for students coming to school one day per week:

*A in on Tuesday. B is on Wednesday, C is on Thursday.

*IF you change to remote, you MUST fill this out: www.nycenet.edu/surveys/learningpreference

*For in-school days, students will be in Pods of 12 or fewer students.

*To reiterate: Each pod will be together from 9 am - 2:30 pm. They will be taken upstairs by a teacher, learn in the same room for all classes, taken outside to eat by teacher, taken back upstairs by teacher, and escorted downstairs for dismissal.

Schedule for 9/21

*This will be sent on Friday, and it will be day of STARS and assessments so we can get to know you better.

*On Monday, you will get a schedule for the rest of the week.

*Some parents/guardians/students will have Listening Conferences on the 21st, some on the 25th.

Will my kid get a CS email account?

YES. They will set it up tomorrow if they are new students.

Should my student bring his/her own computer to school?
No. We have computers at school.

Keep in mind... Is it live or is it Memorex?

Remote learning will be a combination of synchronous (live) and asynchronous (not live, doing work, logging back in) experiences.

My child receives Special Education services, OT, ELL support, etc. Will someone contact me?

Yes. Your service provider will reach out to you.

Wait...I have more questions!

We got you - I promise, and we'll answer your questions and keep you informed.

We are constantly refining everything so we can provide a stellar experience in this context.

RESILIENCE!

This is our theme this year, and we want to build ours, yours, and our community's.

We are here for you.

By the time I have finished writing this, you should have received - or soon will - your STARS Advisor's communication.

We will see you tomorrow!

Best,

Sara Sloves
